Last year
Last years event was the first IMAC event for the Charlotte Aeromodelers. It was very interesting because
of the weather that blew in from the SW. The first day was shortened to one round of flying, but the 2nd day saw 2 rounds
of knowns, the unknowns, AND a Freestyle round all flown by 3 p.m.
We had 27 registered pilots, and are sure many more would have shown up if not for the huge weather system that threatened
to cancel the entire event. All in all, though, it was a good time for all, and we saw a lot of good flying, especially
on Sunday.
Our goal is to make this years Madness even better!!
Information
The take-off/landing arrangments proved very good last year, so again, takeoffs will be done going straight
out on the N-S runway, to relieve any traffic problems when landing. Pilot stations will again be at the ends
of the flightline, with 2 startup stations off center of the runway, as well as one on center.
We will be doing the normal 2-day event format, with 3 rounds of knowns, a round of Unknowns on Sunday, and then a round
of Freestyle.
As with last year, REAL trophies will be included as 1st place prizes, with plaques for 2nd and 3rd.
One big note. . . . this year Smart Fly is donating some items to the mix (Muchos Kudos Smart fly, and thanks).
Depending on the value of the items supplied, they will be given out as Prizes for placement in the Freestyle event, and a
raffle/drawing from the Pilots signup list.
Freestyle:
Freestyle this year will be held after the Unknowns on Sunday. Everyone is encouraged to come out and show off
their stuff. We have a really good sound system, and larger overflight area, so go for it guys.
One note: PLEASE remember that there are trees in the overflight area!!! Last years spectacular crash by
Gerry Neal is not something we want to repeat.
If anyone wants to "Volunteer" to be a Freestyle judge, please let me know.
A word about Safety: all Freestyle flying will take place on the other side of the "Deadline". . basically the
far border of the L-R runway. We urge all pilots to consider Safety first in their flying, and encourage in-place precautions,
including the "25 foot rule" from the AMA, avoiding rudder-touches, and by keeping the aircraft on the far side of the Dead
Line at all times. We don't care what else you do, or how low you go. . .rip it up and show off your stuff ! ! !
Just, please be safe.

This year:
Friday Afternoon: This year we are opening up the event a bit, to include a mini-judging seminar on
Friday afternoon. We will be going over the usual "rules interpretations" concerning spins, snaps, and then doing some
impromptu judging of real pilots flying the real sequences in use this year. We'll even have scorecards so the participants
can see how their judging faired against others.
Our goal with this program is to help achieve a more consistent and fair result from each round of competition.
After all, we come to compete, as well as hang out with our friends and have fun. Too often the judging is the only
complaint at an IMAC event. We are hoping, by instituting this program, to get everyone on the same page.
Saturday: Practice starts at 7:30. We will have the pilots meeting at 8:00 a.m. SHARP.
Please be prompt, as we want to start flying by 8:30. We will fly the 3 rounds of Knowns on Saturday, and then have
Open Fly till dark. If you have a night flyer. . NOW is the time to bring it out. The flight stations are open
as long as you have an airplane in the air.
Unknowns will be handed out 30 minutes after the last round is flown. I'll be on site till after dark, to
hand out unknowns to anyone who wants to Open fly.
Sunday: As with Saturday, the pilots meeting will be at 8:00 sharp. Please, no flying before the
pilots meeting, unless you clear it with the CD or myself. Flying before the pilots meeting will be limited to ONLY
the positioning maneuvers prior to entering the box. NO practice allowed, but if you have a problem with your plane,
and need a quick checkout flight, we can handle that easily.
Unknowns begin at 8:30, on a single flight line on Center. Basic pilots will fly their normal sequence.
FOOD:
All meals and drinks are included in the entry fee of $40 for Non-IMAC and $35 for IMAC pilots. This includes
sodas, tea, water, Burgers and dogs with side dishes and dessert items from 11-3 each day. Friday afternoon the Grill
will have Dogs and Burgers only, upon request, as well as drinks for whoever is thirsty. Meals for spectators are $3
for kids, $5 for adults. Please pay in advance.
FACILITIES:
Last years debacle with the porta-jon will NOT be repeated. Arrangments are in place to have two units on site.
Camping is allowed, though we have no running water and all electrical power is from the generator. Please make a note
of this. RV's and campers will have adequate parking. Please arrive early so we can get you situated properly.
